Princess Diana recorded tapes that were delivered to author Andrew Morton prior to her passing and they are anticipated to be released next year alongside a document. The film is a follow-up to the 2017 Diana: In Her Own Words.

Andrew had been granted the chance to chat under sworn secrecy. However, the conversations were then helped to shape Diana's legacy book, Diana: Her True Story. While some of the information Diana discussed is already covered in the print and the prior movie, more details and quotes are coming to life.

Diana revealed how Prince Charles had a tendency to shut down in the wake of confrontation. She is heard retelling a story that revealed the true dynamic between him and her stepmother; one where Charles 'wouldn't even speak to her'.

She explained: “At Harry's christening Charles went up to mummy and said: ‘We’re so disappointed, we wanted a girl’ and mummy snapped his head off and said you should realise you are lucky to have a child that's normal. Ever since that day, the shutters have come down. That's what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him.”

Diana also spoke about her own wedding day on the tapes obtained by ABC News. She said: “It was grown up. Here's Diana, a kindergarten teacher. I mean the whole thing was ridiculous.”

The People's Princess also expressed the strained dynamic between herself and her own stepmother. Raine Spencer married Diana's mother after her biological mother left.

Diana said: "I was so angry. I said I hate you so much. If you only knew how much we all hated you for what you've done. You ruined the house. You spent daddy's money. I have said everything I possibly could. Raine said you have no idea how much pain your mother put your father through."

She added: "I said pain Raine? It’s one word you don’t even know how to relate to. In my job I see people suffer like you never see. You call that pain? I said you've got a lot to learn. I remember really going for her gullet.”

Andrew explained in an interview with ABC News that these new clips will come at a particularly interesting point of time. With Camilla taking on the role of Queen, there is now a unique perspective to the way viewers will hear Diana's thoughts.

He also acknowledged the "global interest" in the seven hours worth of tapes. He said: "I think people will get a very vivid sense of her personality and her character."
