Josh Allen makes "special" Buffalo Bills claim and addresses Stefon Diggs drama

Josh Allen believes the Buffalo Bills can be ‘special’ while the quarterback played down the drama surrounding star receiver Stefon Diggs.
The Bills have emerged as division champions in each of the last three years, but the AFC East will be difficult to call in 2023. Following strong offseason moves from the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots, the Bills will have to be at their best if they want to reclaim their crown this season.
With the division appearing more difficult, some have begun to question whether the Super Bowl window is closing for the Bills, who have been contenders on an annual basis over the last few seasons. Despite making the playoffs in five of their six seasons under Sean McDermott, the franchise have just one appearance in the AFC Championship game since 1994 - an agonising defet to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019.
During an appearance with Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio, Bills quarterback Allen was asked about the Bills’ hopes. The 27-year-old is not concerned about outside noise as he prepares to lead Buffalo on their latest quest to win a maiden Super Bowl title.
“One thing I do know is it’s hard to win in this league, it’s hard to win consistently in this league,” Allen said. “But the type of men that we have in this facility, in this locker room, it’s a special group.

“So I don’t really hear all that outside noise. I know the type of guys that we have, the energy and the juice that we can bring and how special this team can be.”
Ultimately, the Bills would perhaps be considered stronger contenders to challenge for a Super Bowl LVIII berth if the drama regarding Diggs did not go down earlier this offseason. During Buffalo’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs, Diggs was seen on the sidelines venting his frustration with Allen while the pair connected for just 35 yards on the day despite 10 targets.
In April, Diggs skipped the Bills’ voluntary offseason workouts amid reports he was frustrated with his role in the offense and play-calling. However, Allen insisted he was ‘never’ concerned about the receiver’s future ahead of the 2023 NFL season.

“Our communication’s an all-time high, just understanding some of our concepts better, making sure that we’re talking and have an open line of communication,” Allen said. “The energy and juice that he’s had this training camp and as we’re going to into the season is at an all-time high.
“I love playing with him, we’re going to continue to grow and get better and I think this is going to be our best year yet. I really believe that.”
Buffalo will need Diggs to be at his very best if the franchise hopes for success, with the receiver coming off five successibe 1,000-yard seasons - the last three of which have come for the Bills. In April 2022, he signed a four-year contract extension worth $96 million to commit his future to Buffalo.
Allen, Diggs and the Bills will get to showcase their championship credentials when they face Aaron Rodgers’ Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 1 on Sept. 11.
