Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilon is closing in on a surprise deadline day loan move to Manchester United following an injury to Luke Shaw.

Less than three years after joining Spurs from Real Madrid, Reguilon, 26, has become a peripheral figure in north London and has failed to make the matchday squad for any of this season's Premier League fixtures under new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

But United's need for emergency cover at left-back means Reguilon has been handed an unlikely - and attractive - career lifeline. And the Spanish international could yet line up alongside another player who was not expected to be plying his trade for Manchester United this year.

Former club captain Harry Maguire had been in talks with West Ham over a possible transfer earlier this month but is now expected to stay at Old Trafford after a deal collapsed.

And the England star could be set for an awkward reunion with Reguilon, who he clashed with when United and Spurs faced off back in April 2021. During the game, which United won 3-1, it's claimed Maguire shouted at Reguilon: "Hey, Sergio: f**k off" following a clash.

The duo will be teammates this time around, though, as part of a new look Manchester United team. And while neither are expected to be first-choice, injuries could see Reguilon and Maguire play a key part in the coming weeks with Shaw and Raphael Varane both set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Once a deal for Reguilon is over the line, Erik ten Hag will turn his attention to Sofyan Amrabat, with United currently locked in talks with Fiorentina over a deadline day move.

The Morocco international has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League ever since his standout performances for the Atlas Lions in Qatar, however, United only made a move for the 27-year-old this week.

Both clubs are continuing negotiations over a deal after United's initial bid was rejected on Wednesday evening. Amrabat has been training alone recently amid the ongoing speculation over his future and has worked with Ten Hag before in the Netherlands during his time at FC Utrecht.

United started the day by confirming that a £4.3million deal for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir had been completed. The Turkish international will become the club's new No.2 following the exit of Dean Henderson, who joined Crystal Palace on Thursday.
