Manchester United head into transfer deadline day seeking reinforcements in defence and midfield following a number of recent setbacks.

An injury sustained by Luke Shaw means Erik ten Hag is desperately trying to sign left-back cover - and such a deal could yet have a detrimental effect on their attempts to complete a late swoop for Fiorentina playmaker Sofyan Amrabat.

Whilst several players who have been deemed surplus to requirements have been linked with a move, the likes of Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay and former captain Harry Maguire are all still at the club. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news from in and around Old Trafford...

Fiorentina lay out demands

Fiorentina will refuse to sanction a loan exit for Sofyan Amrabat unless an obligation to purchase the midfielder permanently is included in any deal.

The Morocco international has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford for months and United have finally firmed up their interest in the final days of the summer window. After seeing an initial loan bid rejected, The Telegraph are now reporting that Fiorentina would only agree to a loan deal if terms of a future sale are agreed before Friday night.

The news will come as a blow to Manchester United, who have limited funds to operate with after splurging £170million on signings already this summer.

Donny van de Beek is reluctant to join FC Lorient on loan and could wait for other options to present themselves ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

The former Ajax midfielder has become a peripheral figure at Old Trafford and The Red Devils accepted a proposal from Lorient for Van de Beek earlier this week.

However French outlet Le Parisien are reporting that Van de Beek is not keen on the move and could instead bide his time until closer to the deadline in the hope that a more attractive escape route presents itself.

United switch defender targets

Manchester United are now set to sign Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon as cover for Shaw and Malacia.

United are aiming to sign another full-back after Shaw sustained a muscle injury and have sounded out Chelsea over a deal for Marc Cucurella, who played in Chelsea's 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

However, the Red Devils have now turned their attention to Reguilon ahead of the transfer deadline. Reguilon underwent a medical on Thursday and will join on a season-long loan deal, with a break clause in January, from Tottenham.
