Carabao Cup third round draw live - Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool learn fate

The Premier League big hitters will enter the Carabao Cup for the third round, including holders Manchester United.

The Red Devils saw off Newcastle at Wembley last term to end their lengthy trophy drought and will be seeking another success in the tournament, but will face stiff competition from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Tottenham were among the major casualties in round two as they were beaten on penalties by fellow top flight side Fulham. Several League Two outfits remain in the draw, namely Salford City, who beat Leeds in a shootout, and Bradford City, who made the final in 2013.

Third round games will be played towards the end of September, after which only 16 teams will be left with the first piece of silverware always proving attractive to managers.

Some reaction from Pochettino on Chelsea's hard fought win

He said: "It was tough, that is the beauty of the competition. I am happy with players who made their debut from the start from the first time but we had a squad who could come on help us achieve what we wanted."

The Blues boss was also coy on a potential move for Man City's Cole Palmer.

Top six domination

Much is made about big clubs not caring about cup competitions in England.

That said, since 2005, clubs from the so called top six have only failed to win the Carabao Cup on two occasions.

In 2013 Swansea secured victory whilst two years earlier Birmingham upset Arsenal.

Who's favourite for the competition?

Shock - it is Man City - who are the heavy favourites.

Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal can all be found at 8/1.

Newcastle and Chelsea both 10/1.

Salford and Bradford are a mammmoth 1000/1.

Does the Carabao Cup often lead to the title?

Some often reckon that a bit of early silverware, allowing for a confidence boost, can often push teams forward to the title.

Man City have certainly done so - winning the trophy in 2021, 2019, 2018 and 2014 to accompany a league triumph.

Chelsea did so, most recently in 2015.

Draw not far away now...

That's it for tonight's five games, meaning the draw itself will be done soon.

Blades have evening to forget

A difficult season for Sheffield Utd has continued with a penalty defeat to Lincoln, who will now be eyeing a big name draw.

Everton leave it late!

Danjuma looks like he's bagged the winner with less than two minutes remaining at Doncaster!

Elsewhere, Lincoln and Sheffield Utd have gone to penalties after a goalless draw.

Chelsea and Blackburn through.
