A puppy found in a scorching 45C car with tape over its mouth while her owner gambled in a casino has been rehomed.

There was outrage in July last year after Dutchess, a three-month-old husky, was left abandoned with electrical tape covering her mouth in Las Vegas, US.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police were contacted after concerned members of the public spotted Dutchess locked inside a hot car on the top floor of a car park on the Las Vegas Strip.

Temperatures were 45C on the day officers rescued Dutchess from the car, according to The Animal Foundation, Nevada’s largest animal shelter.

Police had to rescue the dog using the car's sunroof and quickly got her food and water.

The dog was seen breathing heavily and left scared after the horrific incident.

Officers said at the time: “Security got the dog out of the car through the vehicle’s sunroof.

“Through our investigation, we discovered the dog had been in the car for nearly 2 hours without air conditioning, food, or water while the vehicle’s owner went inside to gamble.”

It later emerged the dog's owner Raul Carbajal was in the casino gambling whilst he allegedly left Dutchess tied up in scorching temperatures in his car.

The dog has since been rehomed to a loving family and their two children following her traumatic experience.

The Animal Foundation said in a post: “She lives with a wonderful family who adores her. She sneaks into the children’s beds and enjoys hanging out with her new fur siblings.

"She’s also quite the traveler, making her way all over Nevada, California, and Arizona, never missing a chance to play in the snow."

Social media users were delighted to hear Dutchess had been rehomed and was now part of a loving family who have welcomed her with open arms.

One user wrote: "I remember this story. Such a happy ending."

Another added: "So happy for Dutchess. Love to see happy outcomes!"

Previous owner Raul Carbajal has been charged with felony wilful torture of an animal after allegedly leaving his pet in the dangerously hot conditions.

He is currently out on bail and has a preliminary hearing set for May 8 following the incident last July.
