Bayern Munich are ready to make a shock last-minute swoop for Eric Dier.

The German champions have made enquiries about a move for Dier which could see him reunited with former Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane. Dier, 29, has just 12 months left on his contract, is surplus to requirements at Spurs and would be available for a bargain price.

England captain Kane is big pals with Dier who is also versatile and can play in midfield and defence, with Bayern desperate to sign a holding midfielder before the transfer window shuts. Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel drove the £100m deal for Kane and also believes Premier League stars are tailor made for the Bundesliga.

Bayern had been pushing hard for Feyenoord’s versatile Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida but have cooled their interest as the asking price is in excess of £30m.

However, Tuchel is determined to get reinforcements and they have now made enquiries on Dier. It would be a remarkable turnaround for Dier who got an England recall for the World Cup last year - only for his form to dip dramatically for the rest of the campaign.

His style does not fit with Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou's fast-attacking approach and the club also put contract talks on hold. Dier has been at Spurs since 2012 and during that time became very close with Kane and they are now big friends which would be another attraction.

It remains to be seen whether Bayern push ahead and get the deal done but, after missing out Geertruida, it is now a very real option.

Tottenham fans have been left shocked at the prospect of one of Europe’s biggest clubs now moving for a player who had fallen out of favour.
