The August bank holiday has come around again, which means you'll probably be in need of some extra supplies for the longer weekend.

All of Sainsbury's 600 supermarkets and 800 convenience stores will be open over the weekend including the bank holiday Monday itself - but its hours may be a tad different to normal. The bank holiday falls on August 28.

If you need to make a last-minute supermarket run to Sainsbury's ahead of the long weekend, we explain what opening times you can expect. You should always check the Sainsbury's store finder first to see the exact opening hours for your local store.

This is because opening times will vary from store to store across the UK. You can check your local store by entering your postcode or sharing your location with your device.

Sainsbury’s August bank holiday 2023 opening times

Sainsbury's stores will remain open as normal on Friday August 25, Saturday August 26 and Sunday August 27. Its superstores across England and Wales typically open at either 6am or 7am and shut at either 10pm or 11pm, Monday to Saturday. Then on Sunday, superstores are normally open for six hours from 10am until 4pm in England and Wales.

But on Monday (August 28) when the bank holiday arrives, superstores in England and Wales will open under shorter hours. Most of Sainsbury's bigger stores will be open from 8am until 8pm - so roughly two hours earlier than usual.

Like other chains, Sainsbury’s has smaller convenience stores and these usually have different opening hours to the bigger stores. Over the bank holiday weekend, these stores are scheduled to be open from 7am until either 10pm or 11pm this Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

In regards to Sainsbury's petrol stations, some are open 24 hours, while most pull up their shutters between 5am and 7am. Some stay open until 10pm or 11pm while others don't close until midnight. Others have 24/7 pay at pump facilities.

Again, it's always worth checking ahead to see what time your chosen forecourt is open until. Scottish stores will be open as normal, as the bank holiday in Scotland fell on August 7.
