For the first time in two years, former US President Donald Trump has posted to Twitter, now known as X. The Tweet? His iconic mugshot from the Fulton County Jail — the same one he posted to Truth Social, his own social media platform, mere hours prior.

The Tweet is simply captioned with the URL to his campaign website. When followed, it takes visitors to a page with a haunting message about the events of Thursday evening, when the Republican forerunner in the 2024 presidential race was historically arrested on 13 felony counts related to his illegal plot to overturn the 2020 election.

"Today, a the notoriously violent jail in Fulton County, Georgia, I was ARRESTED despite having committed NO CRIME," he wrote.

He added: "The American people know what's going on. What has taken place is a travesty of justice and ELECTION INTERFERENCE. The Left wants to intimidate YOU out of voting for a political outsider who puts the American people FIRST."

Trump then said he had "walked into the lion's den," where he said: "I WILL NEVER SURRENDER OUR MISSION TO SAVE AMERICA."

An ominous message, seemingly attacking current President Joe Biden for his economic policies, concludes the post. It reads: "If you are doing poorly due to the sinister people in control of our country right now, don’t even think about donating!"

Back in 2021, just a couple of days after the historic January 6 riots in which Trump is accused of inciting his followers to storm the Capitol and seize control of the country following Biden's victory, he was permanently banned from the social media platform, which was not yet owned by Elon Musk.

"We have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter wrote at the time.

That very same day, January 8, he tweeted from the @POTUS account, which is run by the President. "We will not be SILENCED!" he tweeted. He also hinted at the creation of Truth Social, his new media platform he has come to use instead of Twitter in the past two or so years.

Trump essentially believed that, because he was the president, he was above the rules of the platform, Twitter wrote, but officials clapped back by writing: "Our public interest framework exists to enable the public to hear from elected officials and world leaders directly. It is built on a principle that the people have a right to hold power to account in the open. However, we made it clear going back years that these accounts are not above our rules entirely and cannot use Twitter to incite violence, among other things."

Truth Social has since taken off, and the former president posts to it frequently, preferring to use it over Twitter despite Elon Musk restoring his access in November 2022.

Twitter was a crutch in Trump's 2016 election to the presidency, allowing him to spread his missives far and wide very quickly and easily. They were often reported as "BREAKING NEWS," something he would marvel at and also something that drastically improved his campaign.

On Thursday, when he was arrested, he arrived at the Atlanta airport on his private Boeing 757 at approximately 7pm, then was booked at around 7.40pm. He was in and out in approximately 20 minutes, then addressed the press at a conference he held back outside his private jet before returning to New Jersey.

In that conference, he said: “What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. We did nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong, and everybody knows that."

He then added: “We did nothing wrong at all, and we have every right, every single right, to challenge an election that we think is dishonest.”

He called the entire ordeal a "travesty of justice."
