Arsenal ace Leandro Trossard appears to have taken a subtle swipe at Manchester United while discussing the Gunners' title rivals this term.

The Belgian has established himself as a firm fan favourite in the red half of north London, despite seeing his amount of game time restricted. Trossard has a whole host of young, attacking talent in front of him at the moment, with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah earning more minutes after two Premier League games this season.

Whenever Trossard is introduced into proceedings, he tends to make things happen for Arsenal and has popped up with some vital goals and assists since his arrival in the January transfer window. Earlier this month, he netted a deflected 101st minute equaliser against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

The topic of Pep Guardiola's treble winners came up while Trossard was being interviewed by Arsenal's club website, “We have all the respect for what they achieved last season," the 28-year-age “We know how they’ve performed in the Premier League, but it’s down to us. We have such a great squad with so much quality and if the game plan is there and we perform at our best we can challenge them.

“We always want to go toe-to-toe with them. Other teams in the Premier League have added players as well. It’s hard to say who will be in the title race because it’s a long run and you never know what will happen in a season."

It was just after those remarks when Trossard snubbed City's local rivals while assessing which of Arsenal's big-six rivals had impressed him with their summer spending so far this transfer window. He added: "I think Liverpool and Chelsea have made some good signings in the market, but we want to win every game and that’s the mindset of how we go into games. At the end, we will see where we are."

Both Liverpool and Chelsea have spent big this window, but perhaps it is a damning reflection of United's new additions that Trossard did not mention them when assessing how Arsenal's rivals have strengthened. The Red Devils have spent more than £150m so far on Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.

Arsenal themselves have spent big on the likes of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz. Brentford goalkeepere David Raya has also joined on loan. Trossard discussed the impact the new arrivals have had and waxed lyrical over their seamless transition.

“Kai, Timber and Declan are all great additions for the squad. They all bring something and it’s competitive, so everyone has to be at the top of their game to perform well. It’s a really good bunch of lads and it’s nice to have them here."
