Three of 10 most expensive Premier League transfers happened this window
Premier League clubs have just over a week to get their business done in a summer transfer window that has seen incredible amounts of money spent.
Despite their Treble success, Manchester City forked out £78m to sign Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol but that hefty fee is nothing compared to the deals done by some of their rivals.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both smashed their transfer records in a bid to close the gap, with deals for midifelders Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo topping the £100m mark.
But where do the big-money transfers rank among the most-expensive ever deals done by Premier League clubs? Mirror Football has taken a look at the costly ins and outs of recent times.
10. Cristiano Ronaldo - £80m
The Portuguese superstar joined Real Madrid from Manchester United in a then-world record deal. He enjoyed great success in his nine years at the Bernabeu, winning four Champions League and two La Liga titles alongside a host of individual honours. He would leave for Juventus in 2018 and later rejoined United before his big-money switch to Saudi Arabia last year.
Marcel Sabitzer completes Man Utd transfer after last-minute deadline day dash9. Antony - £82m
Erik ten Hag was eager to reunite with the Brazil winger at Old Trafford after working together during his time at Ajax. He was largely inconsistent in his debut season, managing just four goals and will be expected to improve on that this season. It hasn't been the best start to this campaign either, with Antony dragged off in both matches so far.
8. Harry Kane - £85m
After months of speculation, England skipper Kane was finally confirmed as a Bayern Munich player this month, ending his goal-laden career in the Premier League. Tottenham had been reluctant to sell him to a rival amid interest from Manchester United but Kane has settled in seamlessly. He scored one and set up another in Bayern's first match of the season against Wolfsburg.
7. Gareth Bale - £86m
Tottenham cashed in on Bale in the summer of 2013 after a remarkable turnaround in north London. The Welshman's Real career may have ended sourly but his achievements in Spain cannot be underestimated. Bale scored in two Champions League finals and won the competition four times, to rightfully take his place among the very best British exports.
6. Paul Pogba - £89m
Four years after leaving for Juventus for £1.5m, Pogba rejoined Manchester United for a world-record fee back in 2016. The Frenchman was tipped to shine at Old Trafford as he did on the international stage, and while there were flashes of brilliance, they were few and far between. Pogba left for nothing before the start of last season but his return to Juve has been hampered by injury.
5. Romelu Lukaku - £97m
Chelsea followed United's lead when they spent huge sums to re-sign Lukaku, seven years after selling him to Everton. Lukaku seemed the perfect fit for Thomas Tuchel's side after their Champions League win but after a bright start, his form dropped. The Belgian managed just eight Premier League goals before rejoining Inter on loan last seeason. He is back at Stamford Bridge but has no future under Mauricio Pochettino.
4. Eden Hazard - £98m
After taking the Premier League by storm in his seven seasons at Chelsea, Hazard joined Real Madrid for a club-record fee in 2019 but the deal simply didn't work out. Hazard arrived at Real out of shape and struggled for injuries for most of his four year spell, making just 76 appearances. Now 32, Hazard is a free agent after his contract was mutually terminated this summer.
3. Jack Grealish - £100m
Grealish became the most-expensive British player of all time as he left boyhood club Aston Villa for Manchester City in 2021. The England star admitted it took him some time to adjust to life under Pep Guardiola amid doubts over his huge fee. However, Grealish was instrumental in City's Treble triumph last season and more of the same is expected this term.
2. Declan Rice - £105m
The British record was initially broken by Grealish's international teammate earlier this summer as Rice swapped east London for north to join Arsenal. Rice had also attracted interest from Manchester City but Mikel Arteta was desperate to get the midfielder in an attempt to close the gap on Arsenal's title rivals. Rice has impressed so far with his new club, playing in a more advanced position.
1. Moises Caicedo - £115m
One of the biggest transfer sagas in recent memory came to an end earlier this month as Chelsea forked out to land Caicedo from Brighton. The Blues had been in for the Ecuadorian for some time but Liverpool looked to have hijacked that deal with a big-money offer. But he had his heart set on Stamford Bridge and made his debut against West Ham on Sunday, giving away a penalty in a 3-1 defeat.
