Hollyoaks' Owen Warner breaks silence on co-star Jemma Donovan split rumours
Owen Warner has set the record straight regarding his rumoured split with co-star Jemma Donovan.
The couple, who play Romeo Nightingale and Rayne Royce in the Channel soap, were said to have called it quits after getting together earlier this year. However, the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! star took to his Instagram Stories on Monday evening to let fans know what was really going on between the on-screen couple.
Looking studiously at the camera, he said: "I just want to address that me and Jemma have broken up." After a dramatic pause, the actor then claimed his English-Australian co-star was "devastated" and "heartbroken."
However, Owen then flipped the camera to reveal the daughter of Neighbours star Jason Donovan sitting next to him. Concluding the clip calling the break-up reports "s**t", Owen shook his head while Jemma gushed: "We're better than ever," reports OK! magazine.
The lovebirds appeared to go public with their relationship earlier this year when they rocked up at the National Soap Awards, looking quite the couple. Owen captioned a snap of himself with his arm around Jemma's waist: "Red carpet with this rocket." The soap heartthrob also sparked romance rumours in March when Jemma shared a snap of the couple cuddling on her 23rd birthday.
Escape to the Chateau's Dick and Angel give exciting news as fans beg for returnHowever, this week, it was reported their romance had ended as the duo decided they were better off as friends. "They had great fun together but, long term, decided it's better to just be friends," a source told The Sun. "They are both super-professional, so it won't change anything at work." The Mirror contacted Jemma and Owen's reps for comment.
Jemma joined the Channel 4 soap in January as ‘party girl’ and ‘social media sensation’ Rayne, while Owen has been stealing hearts as Romeo on the show since 2018. In Hollyoaks, Romeo and Rayne have been involved in a heated storyline, which has touched on coercive control in relationships.
But Owen has said this is completely different to the couple's off-screen relationship, telling Inside Soap: "Because we are both so different to the roles we play, it makes it easy. Jemma is such a lovely girl and I don't attach her to Rayne."
In the past, the model-turned actor has dated a string of famous ladies, including former Hollyoaks co-star Stephanie Davis, Love Island star Lana Jenkins and Geordie Shore’s Chloe Ferry. When Lana appeared on Love Island in the winter, the actor admitted to the Mirror he wouldn't watch the season as it felt a 'bit weird'. He said: "She’s a lovely girl and people will love her, but I’m not going to be watching. I feel like watching your ex move on to other people is a bit weird."
