Ferne McCann has hit back at fans after she was slammed for having a dangerous feature in her baby's nursery.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star, 32, welcomed her second daughter last month with fiancé Lorri Haines and has been keeping followers updated on her social media. In her latest post, Ferne decided to show off baby Finty's nursery. However, the reality TV star was quickly hit with comments from fans who urged Ferne to remove a feature from the room for her baby's safety.

In the post, Ferne shared a walk-through tour of her daughter's bedroom. She placed Finty into a cot, which was filled with multiple cushions, pillows and throws. Followers were shocked at the cot set up and told Ferne to remove all items. One wrote: "Take the pillows out the cot!!" Another added: "Looks gorgeous but please take pillows out when your special little person is in the cot." "Please take pillows out cot," urged someone else.

The Lullaby Trust, who raise awareness of sudden infant death syndrome, say the safest cot for a baby is a clear cot, which means removing anything that isn’t essential such as pillows, soft toys and duvets. Babies need just two items in their cot - a firm, flat, waterproof mattress and lightweight bedding.

It wasn't just the pillows that fans weren't happy with. Many followers slammed Ferne's choice in decor as they branded the room too "bland" for a baby. One said: "I thought you hadn't finished painting over plaster." Another added: "Looks like it’s not been painted! Thought it was going to be a before and after video at first." "Beautiful room but I don't like the boring bland colours. Babies need colour," wrote a third.

Ferne decided to address the criticism, as she said on her Instagram Story: "I cannot believe how much of a stink Finty's nursery has caused on social media. It is mental. Don't get me wrong I am here for other peoples opinions and I know that I am not going to please everyone and it is fine for us not to love everything. That's fine, I get it, for goodness sake I have got a reality show. I get the odd troll.

"But on a neutral nursery it has honestly blown my mind this time round. I have been reading some of the comments, it's nuts. And yes for everyone concerned, the pillows in the cot, I mean she is not going to go into her cot until she is six months old but I will remove them. But yes I can't believe it, neutral tones send people crazy."

Ferne recently defended her unique choice of name for baby Finty Francis Haines-McCann. The 32-year-old from Essex opened up on Instagram about the special name choice for her second child as she defended it saying she knew it would "split hairs" with some people disliking it because it wasn't "popular". Speaking to her three million followers via Instagram stories, Ferne explained: "Now the name... I knew it was going to split some hairs but I just think if you go for a popular name, an unusual name, whatever name you go for, there's always going to be a few people that won't like it. That's just the way it is.

"But we all grow into our names and she's such a little Finty. Also... let's face it. I couldn't have gone for a bog standard name because it had to go with Sunday. I named my daughter after a day of the week...Wednesday. Wednesday could have been a vibe." Ferne admitted the name was on her list when she gave birth to her first daughter Sunday in 2017, as she revealed: "I don’t know where I got it from, but when I typed it in [on Google ] I saw Judi Dench’s daughter’s nickname is Finty."

Ferne told OK!: "I've always loved it and never heard it anywhere else before. I just feel so connected to the name – she came out and she was just Finty. I think she sounds like a character out of Bridgerton." Explaining the sweet reason for Finty's middle name, Ferne shared: "Francis is my grandad’s name – it’s a nod to Grandad Frank."
