Only Fools and Horses' Nicholas Lyndhurst pictured enjoying a pint with Frasier

Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst has secured a new role, his first following the tragic death of his son Archie, who died in 2020.

The actor, 62, was announced to be part of the new Paramount+ revival of Fraiser earlier this year but information surrounding the programme was being kept very secret. The Hampshire-born actor is taking on the role of Alan Cornwall, who has been dubbed Frasier's old college pal.

A synopsis of the character read: "Frasier's old college buddy turned university professor. British, boozy and larger than life, Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier's—if only he ever felt like using it. Alan's mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier's thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he's been missing in his own life."

Now, new images show Nicholas sitting alongside Kelsey Grammar as they sip pints in a pub. In the series which is to air in October this year, Frasier returns to Boston where she had originally appeared on the US sitcom, Cheers. In the upcoming series which includes ten episodes, Frasier has "new challenges" she must face as well as "new relationships to forge" and to fulfil dreams.

Elsewhere, Frasier's son, Freddy, has been recast for the new series with Jack Cutmore-Scott taking on the role, while Toks Olagundoye will join the programme as Olivia, a friend of Alan and also the head of psychology at the university, she is seen drinking beers with Grammar and Lyndhurst in the newly released image.

The new series which also sees Jess Salgueiro and Anders Keith make appearances also has a new recording of the theme song, Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs. The show which was filmed live in front of a packed studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, CA, will be released on Paramount+ on October 12.

International releases of the series will air the following day on a weekly basis. Nicholas and Kelsey had previously worked together on the West End production of The Man of La Mancha, with Kelsey previously saying: "Nick and I fell in love when we were doing Man Of La Mancha together. I warned them in America. I said, 'Wait until this guy gets here. You'll be doing a scene with him and suddenly you realise he's just run off with it'.

"He's an extraordinary actor, a dear friend. And I am so pleased he's part of it."
