A baby boy nicknamed “the warrior” by doctors died in his mother’s arms after he caught a common virus, aged just a few weeks old.

Hudson Oliver Roebuck appeared to be a healthy baby boy and he was allowed home with his family in Stockport. But not long after he settled in, the newborn fell ill with suspected jaundice.

He returned to hospital where his health took a turn for the worse, prompting doctors to rush him to Alder Hey Children's Hospital two days later. Little Hudson was then placed into an induced coma for nine days and suffered three haemorrhages during that time.

As his health deteriorated, the baby developed an immune deficiency disorder which left his little body unable to fight off enterovirus - a very common type of virus among children. He died on August 4, when he was just five weeks old.

Mum Georgia, 27, told Manchester Evening News : “It was just so painful. It’s a pain I will never, ever forget. It turned our lives upside down. It shouldn’t have happened. We had some time with him when they took the tubes out and he passed away in our arms.

“Everyone is devastated. It’s just heartbreaking. When he passed, I even carried him down to the bereavement centre myself. It was like a nursery, and he was in a crib. It was just hard. I was the stronger one and now I just keep crying. We call him a warrior because he’s just amazing, all the [hospital staff] said that to us.”

The devastated couple were looking forward to welcoming their first child together and introducing him to their other children - Georgia's son Alfie, eight, and daughter Ava-Grace, five, as well as Saul's four-year-old Amelia.

Georgia added: “You’ve got to be really proud of him because he didn't give up. I kept saying, ‘You don’t have to keep fighting for mummy. If you’re ready, just go’. I’ve gone back to being mum and I’m trying to carry on, but it’ll take time. He touched so many lives.”

A fundraiser set up to help Saul and Georgia with Hudson's funeral costs has raised more than £4,000. It reads: “We would like to help cover funeral expenses and give him the send off he deserves for his brave parents, Saul and Georgia. They have had to quit working to spend all their time in Ronald Mc Donald house to be by their son’s side.

“They’ve had to leave other children with family, leave their jobs, their home and we want to try and help reduce some costs for them. Baby Hudson sadly never got to be in this world as he was too special but he sure will go out this world like the king he is.”
