PGA Tour pro calls on grudge match with LIV rivals amid Ryder Cup "politics"

Golf star James Hahn has called on players from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf to take each other on in a grudge match, naming the proposed idea the 'PIF Cup'.

After a year-long saga, the PGA Tour and LIV appeared to have settled their differences. This came after the Tour reached a shock agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), the Middle Eastern funder of the LIV Golf setup.

With the framework agreement still in the early stages of negotiations, the debate surrounding the Tour and LIV has been reignited in recent weeks in regard to the upcoming Ryder Cup.

The debate is centred around LIV players earning a spot on either the European or American team, with rebel players such as Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau relying on a captain's pick to earn a place in Rome. In a bid to settle the debate as to which circuit bodes the stronger playing membership, Hahn has come up with a novel idea.

With both the PGA Tour and LIV now set to benefit from Saudi funding via the proposed 'merger', Hahn believes players from the two sides should face off in the 'PIF Cup. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "So much politics regarding the Ryder Cup and Captain’s picks.

"More reason to have PGAT [PGA Tour] vs. LIV matches in the PIF Cup. Give the people what they want." This is not the first time the idea of a Ryder Cup-style competition between the two rival tours has been flirted, after fans called on the idea earlier this year.

One man who was quick to have his say on the matter, was LIV's biggest name Phil Mickelson. Whilst the six-time major champion played down the chances of the showdown happening, Mickelson did take the chance to take a quick dig at his Tour rivals in the process, claiming team LIV would 'dominate' the event.

Speaking back in February, the former PGA Tour stalwart wrote on social media: "It [PGA Tour vs LIV Golf] sounds great, but we would dominate them so soundly and it would be over so quick that tv would have to fill an hour of dead time. That’s why it’s not happening at this time."
