Twins who played original Bethany Platt on Corrie are now 23 and no longer act

Bethany Platt has been a pivotal character in Coronation Street - and arguably was most famously played by Lucy Fallon.

During her time on the show, 27-year-old Lucy's version of Bethan won multiple awards and high praise from viewers for her harrowing grooming storyline in 2017. And news broke earlier this month that Lucy is set to return to the cobbles to reprise her role - with the actress returning to set in the coming weeks to film scenes due to be aired after Christmas.

Lucy appeared on the cobbled streets of Weatherfield from 2015 until her departure in March 2020 and fans are excited to see her return once again after three years away. But would loyal viewers recognise the original Bethany Platt now? The role of Sarah Platt's daughter was first played by young TWINS called Emily and Amy Walton.

Between 2000 and 2007, the blonde girls took it in turns to play the role of Bethany - before Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, left the cobbles to take her girl abroad to Italy. Lancashire born Emily and Ann were born on 15 March 2000 and are now 23-years-old - but they have turned their backs on acting and no longer follow that career at all.

During their time on the cobbles, however, Emily and Amy were involved in some hard-hitting storylines, proving it's never been an easy life for poor Bethany. One of their most memorable screen appearances came when Gail Platt's serial killer ex-husband Richard Hillman attempted to murder his whole family by sending them plunging into a canal in his car.

Before Lucy Fallon was cast as returning character, the role had gone to another actress. However Katie Redford was allegedly sacked over claims she'd lied about her age.

Katie had been announced as playing Sarah Platt’s then 14-year-old daughter -but it was revealed that the actress was 25 and not 19 as claimed.

After successfully making the role her own, award-winning actress Lucy has won high praise for her portrayal of groomed teen Bethany - and in the next harrowing chapter for her character she will start dancing for punters in a strip club.

In the soap, Bethany was last seen exiting Weatherfield to pursue a career in the magazine industry in London. But now her character is tipped to return - with dramatic new storylines to be explored.

Lucy's return was revealed by The Sun in August 2023 with a source explaining the actress had been approached to reprise the role after becoming a mum off-screen. The source said: “Lucy is one of soap’s most talented actresses who won lots of awards for her powerful portrayal of Bethany’s grooming storyline.

“Bosses reached out to her a few weeks ago about the possibility of coming back, and told her everything they’d planned for Bethany if she agreed. She discussed it with her boyfriend, and family, because she’s a mum now with a baby. Once they’d talked about childcare, and how best to juggle it all, she was able to say she’d love to return.”
