Tottenham dealt potential injury blow as Maddison on crutches after Man Utd win
James Maddison could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after the Tottenham midfielder was seen in a protective boot following Saturday's impressive 2-0 win over Manchester United.
Maddison, 26, became Spurs' marquee summer signing back in June when he finalised a £40million transfer from Leicester and the England international has adapted seamlessly to life in the capital.
The playmaker grabbed two assists in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Brentford and was influential once again for Ange Postecoglou 's side against United, but Spurs will be left sweating after Maddison was spotted hobbling away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on crutches.
In a clip that has since been shared on social media by Sky Sports, Maddison can be seen making his way through the mixed zone with the aid of crutches and a protective boot. He was seen in pain following a coming together in the penalty area towards the end of the match.
Losing Maddison for a sustained period would be another bitter blow for Spurs, who are adapting to life without Harry Kane after their talisman was sold to Bayern Munich last week. And a serious injury to Maddison would seriously sour what has been a promising start to life in the Premier League for Postecoglou, too.

The former Celtic manager has taken four points from his first two games at the helm and earned plenty of plaudits for Spurs' new attacking approach. Unsurprisingly, he was more than satisfied with Saturday's performance.

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou said: “In the first half we looked a bit nervous for half an hour or so and were probably fortunate to be in the game. We were giving the ball away cheaply, allowing them to come at us – it’s not surprising with the really young team we’re putting out there, but there were really encouraging signs towards the end of the first half.
“At half-time, we settled it down and I thought the boys were brilliant. They took the game to United and got the goal.”
Postecoglou has been an instant hit with Spurs fans, who serenaded their new head coach after the match. And after hailing the incredible atmosphere during the game, the Australian admitted he lapped up that special moment with the supporters after a statement victory.
He added: “You want to feel that moment because I have always said, to me I love what football does to people, particularly in those moment. So, you kind of take a moment to think about the 60,000 here or the ones who were watching at home because they will be smiling for the rest of the week.
“I love that it does that the game. For me that moment is just about appreciating I am pretty blessed to be doing what I am doing, being in the middle of a stadium leading a fantastic football club and then you start to think about next week, mate.”
