A teenage boy has tragically died after falling from a bridge on the M6 motorway. The youngster is believed to have been hit by a car after the fall.

Police have appealed for dashcam footage from drivers that may have unknowingly caught a glimpse of the incident as it was dark. The boy, who has not been named, fell from the bridge close to junction 21 of the motorway on Thursday night. Cops were called to the scene at 9.40pm to concerns for his safety. Despite their efforts, the boy died at the scene, reports Birmingham Live.

Sergeant Russell Sime said: "This was an incredibly tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who sadly died at the scene. As part of our enquiries we are looking for witnesses or those with dashcam footage to contact us. We believe the boy may have been struck on the carriageway after falling from the bridge. It would have been dark at this time of night, and it is possible that drivers on the motorway could have been unaware."

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML-1623405.
