David de Gea looks set to lose out on a move to Bayern Munich with Thomas Tuchel vetoing a contract offer.

The Spanish goalkeeper is still without a club following his exit from Manchester United in the summer at the end of his contract. It was thought that he was set for a move to Bayern Munich.

The German giants were on the hunt for another goalkeeper after allowing Yann Sommer to move to Inter Milan, whilst Manuel Neuer is still recovering from an injury. Talks had taken place between De Gea's representatives and he had given his approval to a switch to the Allianz Arena.

However, it now appears that Bayern will not be pursuing his services. According to Sky in Germany, Thomas Tuchel has vetoed a swoop for the former United keeper. The ex-Chelsea boss has confirmed that Neuer is set for a return sooner rather than later, alleviating the need to bring in another goalkeeper quickly.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen, Tuchel confirmed: “The surgery has had a positive effect. We expect him to return to team training earlier than anticipated.

“What I’ve seen from Manuel in the past few days has been impressive. We hope that he will be able to return to training in the next few weeks.”

Elsewhere, it is also reported that Bayern were not willing to meet De Gea’s eye-watering wage demands. He was previously earning £375k per week at Old Trafford.

Bayern’s latest decision is just the latest blow to De Gea’s hopes of finding fresh employment. He was previously seen as an obvious replacement for Thibaut Courtois at Real Madrid following his long-term injury blow.

However, the Spanish giants went in a different direction as they signed De Gea’s compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Bayern were also previously targeting Man City’s reserve goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, only for Pep Guardiola to issue a hands-off policy to his former side.

"It would be a problem to lose him [Ortega] - first for the quality,” he said. “When we bring him here because [goalkeeping coach] Xabi Mancisidor sent me clips and said he was a 'keeper we need.

“He played for a team relegated from the Bundesliga and from day one I said what a 'keeper we have. You know how many saves he makes in important games. We don't want to lose him.

"We need him but like in many cases it depends on three parts. If we lose Stefan two weeks out of the market [closing], we have to go to pick up a 'keeper and it's not easy now. It's not easy. We want him."
