A pooch's dogged-determination not let go of a traffic cone nearly caused traffic chaos on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

The determined dog held up traffic as it refused to let go of the cone on the famous tourist hotspot in the city's Old Town. The pet's firm and stubborn grip on its new makeshift toy resulted in vehicle's being halted as its walker wrestled to remove the cone.

A clip posted on TikTok shows the dog walking up the Royal Mile with his walker as it plays with the plastic object while crossing the road. Jill Stark, who posted the clip, said it was the "most Scottish thing" you'll see.

"Welcome to Edinburgh. The most Scottish thing you'll see today," she wrote. The taxi driver, clearly irritated, ends up having to get out of his vehicle to move a metal gate that the dog owner places in the road.

Narrating the bizarre scene, Jill said: "What's going on here? This dog is just carrying a traffic cone. The guy with dog and the traffic cone, is now holding up the traffic. This is the most Edinburgh thing I've ever seen."

By this time, the taxi driver and dog owner are in a back and forth battle - every time the metal gate is moved out of the way, the other puts it back. Unfortunately, the video ends here and we will never know who came out victorious.

According to the comments section, it's not an uncommon sight to see this dog with various objects in his grip. One comment reads: "The dog carries all sorts of things every day, so cute." Another added: "He was carrying a wet floor sign on Monday."

In fact, the dog seems to be something of a local celebrity. One comment states: "Met this dog on a night out, honestly the sweetest wee thing."
