A large flash mob of dancers had the police called on them while they were attempting to film a video in a Target store without permission - and the group's lead musician has accused the firm of racism.

It turned out that the dance mob was filming a music video for musician Baby Storme, who went viral for her comments on the day's events. She wrote on social media: "This racist Target employee called the police on us for dancing in Target... So we danced anyway."

The video shows more than a dozen women dressed up in gothic clothing in the middle of a Target store trying to complete a dance, with employees standing in front of the camera and asking them to stop.

A person could be heard telling the large group “We’re going to have to call the cops on your guys,” adding: “It’s becoming a safety hazard.” Then a person within the group said: “Hey! If we all just start and multiple people record, they can’t block everyone.” Eventually, law enforcement broke up the dance group and forced them to leave the store.

But users online were not having the aspiring pop star's explanation of the events. Many attacked Storme in comments claiming she was overblowing the situation, but the singer continued to fight back against them, saying that she and her group were harassed "before they got into the building at 9.30am" and showing videos of other flash dance mobs in Target that were not asked to leave.

A warning next to Storme's video on the tweet said: "There is no indication that race was involved in this case. The video shows a mix of races in the group. The group is also violating the stated Target policy against solicitation."

A community note stated: “Target has a clear policy prohibiting this kind of behaviour. It's not right to assume that a Target employee is racist because they are following the store's policy,” and provided a link to the company’s policy.

Storme's comments were full of people with clever remarks. One person argued: “Not gonna lie it’s August and y’all in the middle of Target acting like zombies. I don’t think race has anything to do with it.” Another mocked: “Is the racist in the room with us? Y’all came 80 deep doing the Thriller in Target.”

But Storme says that she's tired of people telling her what is and isn't racist. She took to Twitter to write: "A lot of y’all can really go to hell. this employee literally called the police on us before we even entered the building. it was 9:30, there was no one in the store. don’t try to tell me, a black woman, what racism is. especially if you’re not black."

She added: "We’re not uncivilised or violent people. we just wanted to spread some joy. calling the police & calling us a “safety hazard” when we didn’t even do anything was just wrong. Target is a multi-billion dollar corporation & everyone knows what a flashmob is. its harmless."

The video was for her single, 'This City Is A Graveyard', which is out now, according to Baby Storme's Twitter.
