Conor McGregor gifted each of his Ultimate Fighter prospects $1,000 in casino chips after a pricey steak dinner in a plush Las Vegas restaurant on last night's finale episode.

The Irishman's coaching has come in for criticism throughout the season, with McGregor skipping weigh-ins for the entirety of the show and generally seeming less interested in the competition than rival coach Micheal Chandler. However, the Irishman showed his passion for his side in a gruelling coaches' challenge last week, resulting in a $10,000 cash victory over the American.

And his team appeared to show great respect to the legendary two-weight world champion as they dined on steaks that can go for as high as £150 each at Hank's steakhouse in the Green Valley Ranch Hotel and Casino. After a rousing speech applauding McGregor and his coaching team, he repaid his fighters, who are earning minimal amounts on the show with the money he had won.

"Okay guys so as you know we won the coaches' challenge last week and got 15-ton," McGregor told his team at the fancy Las Vegas dinner, after declaring that he "loved them to bits" and thanking them for their time. "So as a gift from me to yourselves I'll give you a thousand dollars each of chips. A thousand for you, a thousand for you, here we go."

McGregor's win over Chandler in last week's ice bath trivia challenge already earned each of the fighters an extra $2,000 on top of what he won personally. But the Irishman opted to go one step further by offering even more money to the struggling prospects, who admitted that they needed the cash.

It was seeming team leader Carlos Vera who took the reigns in thanking McGregor, telling he and the coaching staff that he wanted to propose a toast to the team. Despite a disaster season that saw just one of their fighters go through, the prospects appeared happy with what the Irishman brought to their camp.

"So gentlemen, I've talked to the team a lot and we've become very close," Vera explained. "The first thing we want to do is thank the coaches, every one of you guys. We all talk about this daily how grateful we are to have you guys here. Then we have Conor, my friend.

"You have thought us from day one what a humble person which we all are has done in the journey of martial arts and that's incredible. You've shown us perseverance, you've shown us an iron will and you've shown us a little bit of 'f*** you' that everybody needs to hear. It's the truth; we're fighters. We are fighters. So cheers to you, thank you for this and thank you for this opportunity."
