Jeremy Vine has revealed the lengths he is going to, to remain safe while cycling after his friend Dan Walker was left requiring hospital treatment.

It comes just days after Dan was knocked out while cycling over the St Mary's Gate roundabout which is parallel to Ecclesall Road in Sheffield's city centre.

Dan, 45, was unconscious following the collision with a motor vehicle and has no recollection of the crash apart from waking up to see emergency services treating him.

Now his pal Jeremy, 57, a keen cyclist has lashed out at those who often claim cyclists are responsible for collisions.

Jeremy's post was met with widespread support from his followers, with one writing: "Very sensible Jeremy. I thought the stealth black outfit was a little inconspicuous despite the floodlight on your head!"

"I cycle 1000s of miles each year and I'm a visibility obsessive with bright clothing, helmet, shoes. Lights on (rear light in flashing mode) even in bright sunlight. Sure it makes a difference," penned a second.

A third went on to write: "It's shameful that we have to dress like we're on a building site just to get from A to B. I need to have insanely bright lights flashing all day long. Totally normal country."

Jeremy recently sparked a mass debate after slamming a "maniac" driver who allegedly cut across him while cycling through London in the dark.

However, others criticised Jeremy for not wearing any high-visibility clothing during his journey through Hammersmith.

Dan recently explained that his helmet had saved his life as he hit the tarmac while navigating on the road around the busy roundabout which connects the popular road lined with bars and restaurants to the city centre.

He told fans that he had been cycling from his home in the city towards the train station on his way to work.
