A former Family Feud contestant has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of his estranged wife.

The judge handed down the sentence to Timothy Bliefnick after he was found guilty in May of breaking into his ex-wife Rebecca "Becky" Postle Bliefnick's home and shooting her 14 times on February 23.

The 41-year-old's father found her dead on the bathroom floor after she failed to turn up to pick up her children from school in Quincy, a small city in western Illinois.

Prosecutors revealed that Bliefnick had meticulously planned the murder, going so far as to research techniques on Google, including how to forcibly open a window with a crowbar and the response time of the police.

The former couple were in the process of divorcing at the time and living apart. According to additional court papers filed in Adams County, Rebecca had also filed for an order of protection from her husband in 2021.

Adams County, Ill., Judge Robert Adrian, who presided over the trial, sternly addressed Timothy Bliefnick during the sentencing, stating, "Mr. Bliefnick, you researched this murder. You planned this murder...

"You practiced this murder... I don't know how long it took you to do that, but some of those shots were fired while she was lying on the ground. And you did all of that while your children were upstairs at your house, lying snug in their beds. You broke into her house, and you shot her one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 times."

The couple had been married in 2009 but their relationship deteriorated over the years, leading to their divorce in 2021. The victim, Rebecca Postle Bliefnick, had expressed concerns about her safety to her sister via text messages shortly before her death.

She texted: “I am putting this in writing that I’m fearful he will somehow harm me, come after me, or will try to [do] something to me that takes me away from the kids or the kids away from me,”

This comes after Timothy joked in an episode of Family Feud in 2019 that he regretted getting married to Rebecca. When host Steve Harvey asked him: "What's your biggest mistake you made at your wedding?"Bliefnick replied: "Said I do." He added: "Not my mistake, not my mistake − I love my wife. I'm gonna get in trouble for that, aren't I?"
