Geordie Shore's Nathan left horrified after nasty date called him racial slur

Nathan Henry has had "a fair few" bad dates over the years, but one man left him completely speechless by his abhorrent, racist actions.

The Geordie Shore star has been open with his love life, having appeared on the likes of Ex On The Beach, as well as sharing his romances on the MTV show on which he found fame. But, during his university days, Nathan encountered men who he'd hoped would be Mr Right.

However, one turned out to be memorable for all the wrong reasons. The reality star, who today launches the BBC Radio 1 Xtra Swipe Your Sign Podcast, has opened up about one encounter that still leaves him completely stunned.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: "It's really bad, I went on a date with a guy, he invited me on a date, took me to an expensive restaurant and – bearing in mind I was at uni back then, so I didn't have much money, I didn't have a job, I'd just moved to Manchester – he chose the most expensive restaurant in Manchester, and he then ordered steak and lobster and a bottle of wine which was like £100," before going on to say that he'd ordered either carbonara or Bolognese which was one of the cheaper options on the swanky menu, due to his low funds.

But Nathan was alerted to red flags when the unidentified man stated that the bill should be split equally, "that's me not eating for three weeks," he recalled. The 32-year-old went on to say: "Afterwards, I brought him back, this takes a very dark turn, we were talking and then play fighting and he dropped the N-bomb.

"This man, calls me a straight-up N and I was like 'What?' and he said 'Oh I'm only joking,' I was like 'No, that's not funny, get out', and he said 'No, I love black people!' I think basically think he asked me to go on a date because he was fetishising the fact he was on a date with a black person or person of colour, I think he liked that. As far as dating disasters go there, that's pretty up there."

Since his horrific ordeal, Nathan has credited dating apps and Instagram for helping him find love with men while he also puts his love life in the hands of a renowned astrologist to help him find a match. Celestial Tree will be tasked with helping Nathan and his co-presenter Ro Frimpong find their ideal partners based on a string of factors, including tarot cards.

Speaking about one of her worst dating experiences, Ro said: "I picked up this girl and it was meant to just be her but her friend got in the car before she did. The girl, who I was meant to go on a date with, asked me to get out of the car and she was like 'Oh I'm sorry, my friend just came over, can she come on the date with us?' This was the first date, first time meeting in person.

"I just said 'Ok', I just thought we're going to the cheapest place. After that, they asked 'Could you drop us somewhere?' Why did we go to a trap house, I'm seeing people doing illegal things in there, I was like 'I gotta go, I'm not trying to get arrested today, I'm going home!'" Ro later blocked the woman in question but bumped into her several weeks, with the woman being confused why she'd been blocked having believed they went on a "good date".

But, while dating based on astrology alone isn't for everyone, Ro admits that it was an "interesting" but fun experience saying: "I think I learned a lot about myself in that process and have taken accountability for who I am." Meanwhile, Nathan said: "I've always been heavily in astrology readings and tarot cards, so I think the fact that we've been dating based solely on an astrological pairing, I was so eager for it, it was my dream. "

The first episode of Swipe Your Sign launches on BBC Sounds on August 19 to coincide with UK Black Pride and will run for 12 weeks.
