Some Might Say a supergroup with Noel Gallagher and the Beatles would be fab… not least the former Oasis man himself.

The star has told how he would pay to play in a band with pop legends Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr. Self-confessed Beatles fanatic Noel has often cited the Fab Four as a source of inspiration throughout his four-decade spanning career.

He said: “I’d definitely join a supergroup. I don’t know if I would start one. Who would I like to be in a supergroup with? I could be in a band with [Paul] Weller and I could be in a band with Johnny [Marr], easily. Playing the bass… Ringo and Macca would be f*****g great.

“Imagine being in a band with Ringo and Macca. Who’s singing? Everyone. I’d f*****g pay to be in it. Get me [promoter] Harvey Goldsmith.” Noel previously teamed up with McCartney and Weller in 1995 to record a cover of Beatles track Come Together – originally sung by John Lennon – for the 1995 charity album HELP, to raise money for War Child. And he also performed with the 81-year-old Beatles front man at his daughter Stella McCartney’s 50th birthday party.

But while Macca is still going strong with live performances, Noel has admitted he is starting to feel his age on stage. As well as letting his fitness slip, he has also started forgetting the lyrics to his songs when playing live with his High Flying Birds band.

He said: “I’ve found myself on this tour, and I’m sure it’s a symptom of the ongoing march of time, but I’ve consciously found myself thinking, ‘What is the next line to this song?’ And, I mean, thankfully, I’m not forgetting a lot. But I’ve just got to think.

“The [lyrics] autocue… I’m sure, eventually, I’ll need one or two. It was a couple of years ago that I ran a mile. I need to get back in the gym.“ If Noel did join a group with Macca and Ringo, it’s a fair bet any audience would be able to help out with lyrics…
