Jess Wright shows psoriasis in candid photo and declares 'This is me'
Jess Wright has been praised by fans after bravely showing off her psoriasis in a new social media post.
The English reality TV star took to Instagram on Wednesday with a photo of her bare limbs to raise awareness of the autoimmune skin condition, much to the delight of her 1.5m followers. In the candid selfie, Jess is wearing a short black dress that exposes the red patches on her calves, thighs and arms. She has captioned the photo, "This is Me" and tagged Psoriasis Awareness Month. The 37-year-old's raven black hair is also wet and slicked back, suggesting she is fresh out of the shower.
It didn't take long for the fans of Jess, who rose to fame in 2010 on The Only Way is Essex, to commend her courageous post.
"Thank you for showing your real skin, it makes such a difference for breaking down the shame and stigma associated with a visible skin condition like psoriasis," one impressed person wrote.
"Your a knock out model Jess," Gemma Collins, who also starred on TOWIE, wrote.
TOWIE's Chloe Brockett makes cheeky dig at Saffron Lempriere during filmingOthers shared their own experiences of psoriasis, which normally manifests in the form of red and crusty patches on the skin.
"I have this, it gets me down so much and it’s now appearing on my face. I feel how you feel. I got badly attacked by a dog when I was younger and the shock seemed to trigger it off that was nearly 28 years ago now, wish there was a cure that really works," one person revealed.
"Flare ups are honestly the worst, just when you think you’re having a good couple of weeks/months it comes straight back! Hard to learn to love your skin with psoriasis but raising awareness like this always helps," another approving follower commented.
This isn't the first time that Jess has spoken out about her battle with psoriasis. In November, the mum-of-one opened up about how the condition has negatively affected her confidence in the past.
"“When I was single I got scared that (my psoriasis) was going to put people off," she told OK! magazine, before adding that her relationship with husband William-Lee Kemp has helped her to no longer care what other people think. "He loves me for who I am and what I am. It doesn't bother him," she explained.
Jess also revealed that the birth of the couple's first child, Presley, was a significant trigger in causing the psoriasis to flare up. When asked why she has chosen to share her journey with the condition now, the Londoner said, "I know I should. It’s a relatable subject and I hoped by sharing it on socials, people could talk in the comments below and share remedies, and know that they’re not alone."
