Gavin and Stacey stars share huge filming secret 13 years after series ended

Gavin and Stacey stars Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman have only just revealed a huge filming secret from the show, 13 years after the last series was aired.

The much-loved Pam and Mick actors have let slip a revelation that has left fans stunned. The popular BBC sitcom first hit screens back in 2007 as it followed the love story of Gavin and Stacey navigating their lives in Essex and Wales. It ran for three series, with the cast all reuniting once more for a hotly anticipated Christmas special in 2019.

Viewers loved watching the characters from Billericay in Essex, and Barry, South Wales come together despite their sometimes polarising lives. Gavin lived in his parent's large detached home, while Stacey lived with her widowed mother, Gwen in a terraced house with Uncle Bryn across the road. However, Larry and Alison have now only just revealed the cast never stepped foot in Essex!

"Gavin & Stacey was all filmed in Wales, nobody offered us the opportunity to go to Essex," Larry admitted to Radio Times. "[Producers] said, 'Billericay's where you're from', so we just got on with it, we just do what we're told." The revelation comes after the two stars are reuniting for a brand-new TV show.

The pair will take a trip down memory lane with their new project Alison & Larry: Billericay to Barry, which will see the two actors finally make the 210-mile road trip from Essex to Wales. It's been revealed that they will visit beauty spots in the countryside on their journey as well as locations that have an "intimate connection to them and Gavin and Stacey".

They are also set to take part in activities designed to "unleash their inner" Pam and Mick and will get the chance to meet up with old friends from the sitcom along the way. Alison said: "I can't wait to take this trip down memory lane to explore Pam and Mick's neck of the woods, as well as so many other locations precious to me. And who better to do it with than Larry? I'm so excited to be reunited".

Larry said: "I am really looking forward to reminiscing with Alison whilst taking the trip from Billericay to Barry, it was such a huge part in the plot of Gavin and Stacey. This journey holds a special place in my heart and I hope the fans are pleased with it." Stacey actress Joanna Page also did the voice-over for the travel show.

She recently revealed her hopes of a full reunion to The Sun, saying: " That would be so lovely. When we all first started it was like an instant family. We're all still constantly in touch with each other, my gosh we send each other so many messages. We struggle to even make time for our own families. But then I agree, we have GOT to find out what Smithy says to Nessa!"

Fans have been hoping chances of a fourth series of the hit comedy show are more likely now James Corden has relocated back to the UK. He admitted to meeting up with co-creator Ruth Jones over Christmas. James revealed to The Sun : "In truth, Ruth and I met up at Christmas. And I know it will be a disappointment, but we didn’t talk about it in life-growing forms. It is whether we decide to get into a room together and honestly, I could not tell you what the chances are of that. We both have to be ready and right."
