This is the shocking moment a patrol officer was just inches away from death after nearly being hit by an out of control truck driver.

The incident, which happened on February 21, shows a member of the Wycoming Highway Patrol walking down Interstate 80, Wyoming, US, to help a driver stuck in the icy conditions.

But as the patrol officer headed back to the car a huge truck driver came heading towards them and were just seconds away from being hit after being narrowly avoided.

Fortunately, the officer quickly looked up and ran out the way as the driver sped off nearly causing an accident on the dangerous roads.

Wycoming Highway Patrol tweeted the footage with the caption: "Move over and slow down for emergency vehicles,

"One of our WHP Troopers nearly got hit by a commercial semi-tractor and trailer recently.

"The near miss occurred near Rawlins, Wyoming, on Interstate 80. Please slow down, and move over for emergency vehicles."

The frightening footage left hundreds of people angry at the driver as social media users claimed if the officer looked up just seconds later they could have died.

One user wrote: "If he had looked up half a second later... Always check your surroundings."

Another added: "Wow that was close," and "Thankfully he looked up just in time. So glad he is okay.

"Also, I love how he turns around without hesitation to address the issue. I can’t say many of us would want to do much after that."

People were quick to criticise the driver as the truck appeared to speed up rather than slow down in the hazardous conditions.

And one user believes the truck driver should face consequences after the near fatal crash.

They wrote: "That "less than trucker" should have their license suspended for a minimum of 6 months..."

The incident comes after severe weather warnings were issued for large parts of the US with winter storms leaving snow, heavy rain and high winds across the country.

And some of the wintry storms are expected to hit the west coast and northeastern New England region until Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service also advised against motorists travelling on the roads with blizzard conditions expected in the Upper Midwest over the weekend.
