Yesterday a fire broke out a recycling facility in New Mexico sending thick plumes of black smoke soaring into the atmosphere as a massive fire broke out.

Witnesses posted pictures online showing the huge fire, which appeared to be very close to Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, southeastern New Mexico. Authorities said the fire broke out at a plastic recycling plant in Mesa Del Sol.

The building was evacuated. Emergency services rushed to the scene and battled the blaze. The fire began at the 5300 block of Hawking Drive, per Bernalillo County Fire Rescue (BCFR). It was reported at 2:38pm local time. The cause of the fire is unclear as of yet.

Fire crews said the blaze included “structures, product, and vehicles” and ordered the public to stay away.

The Albuquerque Fire has written on Twitter: "AFR and Bernalillo County working a multi-alarm, multi-jurisdictional fire. Structures, product and vehicles are involved. Fire is not under control. Stay clear of the area of Bobby Foster and south University."

It is unclear if anyone was injured as a result of the fire as of yet. Authorities haven't released a warning for local residents to remain inside and protect themselves from the fumes as of yet. Although the area where the fire broke out is remote, local residents are reporting on social media that the smoke seems to be approaching residential areas due to the strong winds.

Reports claimed that the fire fully infilled the large plastic storage facility and that the area was being cleared of all spectators. Police and firefighters said that the winds are unpredictable.

A Twitter user, Katy @KatyDidDance wrote on Twitter: "Any idea what’s burning in south Albuquerque? Thick black smoke south west of the base." Another user, Elaine Hamilton @FaLL3nAng3L79 said: "Whoa!! I just looked out my office window and can see it from all the way up here (far end of Rio Rancho)"
