Harry Redknapp has crowned Manchester United as his favourites to win the Premier League title, warning Pep Guardiola that he will have a tough task to motivate his Manchester City side.

City claimed their fifth title in six years last season, overhauling Arsenal who led the way for much of the campaign. The Gunners have strengthened this summer, bringing in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz.

United have also spent heavily, adding Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund to Erik ten Hag's squad. And Redknapp, who won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008, believes that their summer business puts them ahead of City and Arsenal.

"Pep has a hell of a job on his hands to keep them as hungry and bang at it again. Let’s be honest, as brilliant as City were last time, the title was in Arsenal’s hands and they let it slip," he told The Sun.

"Mikel Arteta has signed very well in the summer while Pep has lost one or two. There’s no doubt they are in a genuine fight again… and I can see this one going the distance. Arsenal will no doubt still be kicking themselves at not seeing it through from such a strong position.

"But while it wouldn’t be the greatest surprise to see Arsenal as champions, I’m actually tipping the Premier League to stay in Manchester. Just not with the team everyone thinks.

"Erik ten Hag did a great job in his first season at United and he’s another who has had a decent summer in the market. I think United are fantastic value and in my book they will be a real threat to everyone this season."

While Redknapp has concerns about City's motivation after winning the treble, Guardiola has no such worries. Instead, he believes the memory of making history last season will spur his side onto having more success.

“I don’t allow them to forget anything we have done. How do you do that? To forget the good moments, we cannot forget them. The players know what they have to do. The other teams are going to be more aggressive and play better," he said.

“This is the level we need to be at. We train less because we don’t have time but we need to play to get our patterns and principles. We know how difficult it is to win one single game. We have to be humble to put the effort in every single game.

“We have done it in the past, why should we not do it now? What we did belongs in our hearts and minds but while we are here we cannot stop. Always we are focused every season on what we can do better and play better than we did against Inter.

“We are closer to not repeating the Treble than winning the Treble. No team has ever won four Premier Leagues in a row. We started last season, lost 3-1 in the Community Shield against Liverpool. Every time we arrive in the last two or three months in good shape.”
