Action-adventure movie Meg 2: The Trench, starring Jason Statham, was just released on the big screen and has already received one of the worst Rotten Tomato scores of all time. One viewer even called the film "a disaster that belongs at the bottom of the ocean."

The first Meg movie, directed by Jon Turteltaub, debuted in 2018 and was met with great success. The original sci-fi thriller followed rescue diver Jonas Taylor, played by actor Statham, as he goes through the epic journey of trying to save his fellow crew members from a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon. The film follows Jonas in the high-stakes mission as he has to captain a disabled deep-sea submersible while the crew is trapped at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

The first ocean adventure was a box-office hit, grossing $530million worldwide. Now, as the Warner Bros picture hits the big screens for a sequel, the film has received a tragically low score of 28 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. In Meg 2, courageous diver Jonas travels back into the trench where the huge shark was first seen. Here, the crew discover other Megalodon and encounter other giant dangerous mysterious sea life, including a giant octopus.

English actor Statham is famously known for starring in action-thriller roles. The 56-year-old actor is often casted as characters that are tough, violent, and gritty and has a loving following as he has performed in many blockbuster hits. Outside of Megalodon, Statham is known for his memorable performances in The Transporter, Fast & Furious, Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Wrath of Man, and many more movies.

But despite Statham's devoted fanbase, moviegoers are not giving the Megalodon sequel the kindest of reviews, with many critics taking to Rotten Tomatoes to share their thoughts.

One viewer wrote: "There's more, more and more. More Megs. More problems. More ludicrous plot points, more cartoonish villains, and more dialogue cheesier than an over-ripened Brie wheel left out on a picnic table. But also, in the film's saving grace, more Jason Statham."

Another moviegoer added: "Meg 2, by design, is a completely anonymous bag of lukewarm McDonalds – it’s hard to be mad at it, but only because nothing in it stands out enough to get mad at."

And a third critic shared: "Save for a few inspired silly set pieces in the third act, this is a disaster that belongs at the bottom of the trench."
