'I tried the proper way to fold a fitted sheet - it's an absolute game-changer'

Every day it seems there's a new tip, trick, or hack coming to light that is supposed to help make your life just that little bit easier and thankfully, most of them don't actually take very long to do if you're keen to give them a try.

Most recently we've seen a number of tips go viral that didn't actually work - including a trick for peeling garlic and a little-known use for the fourth side of a box cheese grater. I gave them a go and was disappointed by the results.

But after testing out yet another tip that's been causing a stir online, I've finally found one that actually does what is promised and is going to be a real game-changer at home if you love keeping things organised and tidy.

Now, I'm very much someone who usually just bundles up a fitted sheet once it's been washed and dried and then shoves it into the cupboard, forgetting all about it until it's time to change the bedding. Despite my laziness, I was rather intrigued when I heard there was actually a 'right' way to fold up a sheet like this, so in a bid to make my airing cupboard a little less messy I put it to the test, hopeful it would work and be something I could do in seconds - and it was even better than I thought.

The viral post was initially shared on Instagram by a user named @that40yearguy who had spotted another account sharing the hack and decided to give it a go himself. The steps involve putting two corners of the sheet inside the other two corners, before placing the sheet down flat.

You then fold one of the long sides of the sheet up into the middle, before taking one of the shorter ends and folding that in towards the middle as well. Repeat with the other short side, before folding it in half width-ways again to make it thinner. Then turning it so the thin sheet is lengthways, you fold it over itself twice to produce a neat little square of bedding. The steps sound confusing at first, but if you give the video above a watch, you'll soon see they're actually remarkably easy to follow and recreate for yourself.

I was so impressed by this hack and a little mortified that it's taken me this many years to discover it and fold up a fitted sheet properly. But either way, I'll definitely be doing this all the time going forward and it seems I'm not the only one who was a fan of the hack, with many people on social media also previously praising it.

One person was quick to brand it "genius" while another said it was "the best hack". Someone else had tried it and proclaimed that it "works well", with a different user adding: "I needed this. I'm 31 and juuuuust learned this lmao. I was wadding them up too."
