TV presenter Clare Balding made a savage swipe at Jeremy Vine star and dog trainer Storm Huntley in her new Channel 5 show Lost Dogs Live.

The 52-year-old presenter is fronting a new show about missing dogs where it hopes to reunite owners and pooches back together again. The show appeals for any information that may reunite these dedicated dog lovers with their beloved mutts and help them heal their broken hearts.

The sweet show has come under fire as questions were raised over Clare's 'expertise' in presenting such a show, as the presenter is typically seen on sports programmes instead. However, Clare proved she isn't one to back down as she made a brutal dig at dog trainer Storm Huntley after being taught how to do recall with her dog Boo.

Storm demonstrated the recall exercise but initially, Boo refused to return, leaving the dog trainer offering soft cheese as a reward. Storm explained: "The idea is to gradually increase the distance. The secret to recall is always rewarding your dog with a treat or a fuss when they come back. Boo seems now to get the idea, but Boo isn't getting tired so this training session must end. But we have definitely made progress."

However, when the show then cut back to Clare, she took the opportunity to make a dig about Boo and Storm. Clare commented: "Yeah, I think there is a bit of work to be done there if I'm honest."

The comment from Clare comes after the show initially received a backlash from viewers when it first aired.

Taking to Twitter, one fan did not hold back as they said: "This UTTER MADNESS is currently live on Channel 5. Clare Balding doing her best here in fairness. It’s like Crimewatch for Dogs. Recreations. Dramatic music. Breathy narration. Dog Drone Unit. It’s wonderful. And entirely ludicrous."

Another wrote: "Posh Clare Balding is an expert on Golf, Tennis, Horse racing, and now dogs!" A third added: "Lost Dogs with Clare Balding. Is that an old Partridge pitch?"

A fourth wrote: "Clare Balding is literally on everything at the moment, isn’t she? Gogglebox one minute, Wimbledon the next, and now she’s doing a show about lost dogs. Trooper!" A fifth agreed, writing: "I've given #lostdogslive 20 mins, but not 4 me. I want 2 see dogs not listen and see Clare balding chatting accompanied by pics."

Clare Balding's Lost Dogs Live airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5.
