We're only nine weeks into 2023 and Jeremy Vine has already shared video footage of his 'first collision of the year' on his bike.

The determined cyclist, 57, said the crash was caused by a cyclist going through a red light at a crossing which he says caused him to swerve into the cyclist next to him.

The BBC Radio 2 host shared the 51-second clip of the incident from his helmet-mounted camera on Twitter.

"My first collision of the year, and it's caused by a cyclist going through a red light," he said.

The clip shows the TV star having a polite exchange with the cyclist he crashed into before carrying on his way.

"In fairness to all involved, the lawbreaking cyclist posed no real danger; the impact was minor; and I made a new friend," he added.

"If this had been three drivers coming together, there would have been a fist-fight, an insurance claim, and a jam at Marble Arch backing up to Victoria."

The clip has now been viewed over a million times and opened up the usual debate between cyclists and motorists.

"A perfect example of why drivers hate cyclists. Quite a lot of them think the rules of the road don't apply to them. If they don't go through lights, they jump to the pavement to cut through and back on the road again. Speed limits also apply," one commented.

"That was the most polite collision I've ever seen. Glad no one was hurt," another added.

"That could be the most British accident that's ever happened," a third wrote.

It comes just a week after his friend Dan Walker was knocked out while cycling over a roundabout in Sheffield's city centre and was left requiring hospital treatment.

Dan, 45, was unconscious following the collision with a motor vehicle and has no recollection of the crash apart from waking up to see emergency services treating him.

Soon after Jeremy lashed out at those who often claim cyclists are responsible for collisions.

The broadcaster shared a snap of his new fluorescent yellow helmet and jacket as he admitted he wasn't taking any chances when it comes to his safety.

Alongside the post, he penned: "As a direct result of the horrible crash involving @mrdanwalker — I'm now upping my level of fluorescent.

"This is how it works with cycling — you get the blame for all the bad driving around you.

"Likely effect of my new hat and top on my personal safety: less than zero."

Jeremy recently sparked a mass debate after slamming a "maniac" driver who allegedly cut across him while cycling through London in the dark.

However, others criticised Jeremy for not wearing any high-visibility clothing during his journey through Hammersmith.
