Kate Garraway delivers update on Derek's health after recent hospital dash
Derek Draper is still in and out of hospital, Kate Garraway has revealed.
The Good Morning Britain presenter is on ITV again this evening to host Kate Garraway's Life Stories, where she chats with Strictly Come Dancing legend Anton du Beke about his tough childhood and finding fame. Aside from her TV work, Kate is kept incredibly busy caring for her husband Derek Draper, who is still struggling after contracting Covid back in 2020.
Derek was struck down with the virus whilst he also suffered complications as a result, and as a result has needed round the clock care. He finally came home from hospital recently, but has regularly had to go back for treatment and other complications.
A few weeks back, Kate reflected on Derek's continuing health battles as she collected her MBE with him by her side.
Kate Garraway is continuing to care for her husband Derek Draper as he is in and out of hospital after battling with complications of coronavirus (ITV)Taking to social media, she revealed he was back in hospital, writing: "Well what a week, that started with Derek in hospital and ended with Derek in hospital, but with this extraordinary day in the middle. I am so incredibly moved and humbled by the whole experience. So many of you have sent so many lovely messages , including the lady who stopped her car a few minutes ago outside our house to say 'I know what you’re going through, and I know how much that moment meant and I am a nurse.'

"It was so wonderful to see Derek’s determination to be there., so kind of the Prince of Wales, to make it special for him & to recognise the work of Jake our incredible carer, who represents all those who make Derek’s daily life possible."

Derek watched on as Kate received her MBE (PA)She also revealed Derek was back in hospital again the following day as they grappled with the "daily struggles".
"Tomorrow Derek is back in hospital and of course the daily struggles go on - but the fact that he was able to be part of Wednesday is to be treasured & can’t thank everyone in the NHS and all around him who love him for making it possible," she wrote.
Derek has been in and out of hospital (itv)Kate revealed earlier this year that Derek can now speak in a whisper, and she is thrilled to see him improving all the time.
She explained: "It's very much a whisper. I don't think we're necessarily going to have a conversation, but you get fantastic moments. Billy had a new basketball and was bouncing it, and he said 'is that new ball?' He said: 'It's nice'... Seeing him able to was amazing. Billy was in tears; they were hugging. It's things like that that really lift you up, and the next day he was really still."
Kate has managed to go on a few outings with Derek, with Elton John dedicating a song to them on his tour.
"So this was a moment. Finally found someone who had actually filmed it rather than just burst into joyous tears as we did!!! Still can’t quite believe we were there at all - even hours before we feared Derek would be too weak - but he was determined. Yes Derek has been back in hospital this week & yes there’s such a long road ahead but #eltonjohn & @davidfurnish you gave the kids & Derek a moment that we will never forget and has lifted their spirits again to feel anything is possible," she wrote.
