THERE’S reason to back Rhyme in the Coral Kincsem Handicap.

ROYAL RHYME (1.50) has a perfect record on soft ground. He made a winning debut at Thirsk on testing going and he thrived on the same surface when bolting up by five lengths at Newmarket in May.

The way he cruised through the race in the London Gold Cup was most impressive and, although he checked out tamely in the closing stages, a two month break since that run suggests something wasn’t quite right.

That Newbury contest is usually packed with Group-quality horses and this year’s race looked well up to standard. With the ground in his favour, he should bounce back to his best. Have 3pts each-way at 14-1. Several bookies are paying out on six places.

I can’t resist throwing a few quid at NAZALAN (2.25) in the Markel Richmond Stakes at a monster price.

He’s come up against the likes of top two-year-olds Jasour and Kylian either side of his all-the-way Sandown novice win.

The way he went through the Listed Dragon Stakes won by Kylian at Sandown last month, suggested he should improve for both the step up to 6f and the softer ground. From a good draw and with Frankie Dettori in the saddle. Have 1pt each-way at 28-1. Several bookies are paying four places.

Joe Fanning has an excellent record of two wins from three rides on ANOTHER BAAR (5.55).

He’s again on board Adrian Keatley’s speedster in the closing World Pool Handicap.

The veteran jockey’s only defeat on him came last time at Hamilton, but he finished lame that day, so it’s not worth worrying about.

His previous form this season is good. He won over 6f on soft ground on his return to action at Ripon and he’s shown how versatile he is by winning over 5f on a quick surface in June.

The combination of the minimum trip in testing conditions should be perfect and he could easily take a step forward for wearing a visor for the first time.

He’s also happy racing prominently and that should help. Have 1pt each-way at 18-1. Most firms are going four places.
