Thomas Tuchel makes Harry Kane transfer stance clear as fresh talks arranged

Thomas Tuchel is willing to wait as long as it takes to land top strike target Harry Kane this summer — even if it means him missing the start of the Bundesliga season.

Bayern Munich officials Jan-Christian Dreesen and Marco Neppe hope to meet with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on Monday after Friday’s talks were cancelled. And there is a belief from the German giant’s side that slow but steady progress is being made.

The best offer Bayern have tabled is £70million plus add-ons — with Spurs valuing Kane at around the £100m mark. But they are willing to go higher to get the England captain and are relaxed about the prospect of negotiations with Levy dragging on ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.

Bayern were apologetic over comments from honorary president Ali Hoeness that Kane would join them this summer if he stayed true to his word. But as unhelpful as his words were, no one denied their validity and Bayern will continue pressing to get their man.

Tuchel is in Asia as part of Bayern’s pre-season tour and, grilled by the media about his plans for Mathys Tel, a player described as the ‘new Kylian Mbappe’, he was non-committal.

“We will discuss the exact future of Mathys as soon as something changes here and that could be much later in the transfer window,” said Tuchel, with a nod towards the situation with Kane.

Spurs are understood to have an interest in the 18-year-old Frenchman, who can play anywhere across the front three. Bayern know they will have to get much closer to Tottenham’s valuation of Kane to convince Levy to do business. But the fact he can leave on a free transfer next summer means Spurs must sell him this summer if they want to cash in.

Paris Saint-Germain are keeping a watching brief amid interest of their own in Kane, with suggestions they will make a move once the figure at which Levy will do business becomes clear. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag would also love to sign the Spurs star.
