Capcom looks poised to announce a new game that it expects to 'sell millions' in the near future, which is set to arrive by March 2024. And while the title hasn't been officially confirmed, we're pretty sure it's going to be Monster Hunter 6.

Capcom is having a banner year with two of its biggest series getting new titles this year that are among the best games of 2023. And the momentum the Capcom hype train got from Resident Evil 4 and Street Fighter 6 is being bolstered with the news that we could be seeing a Monster Hunter 6 release next year for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Following its FY23 Q1 quarterly earnings reports, Bloombergs's Takashi Mochizuki tweeted that the publisher has said that it will release an unannounced game by the end of March 2024 that it expects to "sell millions". Obviously Capcom hasn't dropped the name of the forthcoming game in question, but based on the confidence behind the game selling millions, it's easy to assume that it's a new entry in its other incredibly popular franchise – Monster Hunter.

The last Monster Hunter game was Monster Hunter Rise which released for the Nintendo Switch in 2021. It was announced at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) in September 2020 and released in March 2021, so there's a precedent for the series to have a short reveal-to-release. If Monster Hunter 6 is unveiled at TGS 2023, a March 2024 Monster Hunter 6 release date isn't out of the question.

On top of that, it's the series' anniversary next year, and given that the very first instalment launched in Japan in March 2004, a March 2024 Monster Hunter 6 release in the same month would be perfectly timed for the occasion. Plus, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto has previously hinted on Twitter that something is happening with the series at this year's Tokyo Game show.

Typically each generation of Monster Hunter has two titles – one by the main dev team and one by the second team – so despite arriving after Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter Rise isn't Monster Hunter 6.

Considering Capcom's number one and two best selling games of all time are Monster Hunter World at 18.8 million units and Monster Hunter Rise, it's a safe bet to assume that the Monster Hunter 6 release will follow suit and also 'sell millions'. .

TGS 2023 will take place from September 21 to September 24, 2023. Capcom typically hosts its own presentation during the event, so we'll most likely find out the Monster Hunter 6 release date there.

Proof of a Hero

Monster Hunter World was an absolute banger and finally freed the series from its Nintendo 3DS shackles and made a full-fledged console-focused title; a move that went well for Capcom as the game immediately blew up in both sales and critical reception. This success followed onto Monster Hunter Rise, which took everything that worked for Monster Hunter World and turned the dial up to 11. New movement mechanics and special attacks took the pace and verticality of the game to a new level and is my pick for the best game in the series (and the overall best of game of 2021).

If the surprise game is Monster Hunter 6, and it's is as good as World and Rise were while bumping up the graphics and performance to the standards of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (and smooths out the dodgy online matchmaking), we already have a contender for the best game of 2024.
