Ben Foster started in goal for Wrexham against Manchester United - despite being out on the town in San Diego the night before.

Just hours after Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson had said his squad were not allowed out to bars on their tour of the United States, Foster was seen - along with three other companions - trying to gain entry to one.

The quartet tried to get into the Barley Mash bar, a busy nightspot in San Diego, but were refused entry by a doorman, who said they were asked for ID and were turned away because of their "attitude".

Despite Foster's fun, Wrexham still recorded a 3-1 victory on Tuesday. United were reduced to 10 players when captain Dan Gore was sent off in the second half, while goalkeeper Nathan Bishop was fortunate to stay on after flattening Paul Mullin.

The incident involving Foster happened at 9.30pm, less than 24 hours before Foster played the first half against United, and only a few hours after Parkinson had said his players were not allowed out to bars. "We've tried to give the lads an experience everywhere we’ve been," said Parkinson. "They had a coach trip around Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

"We don’t want the lads to come on this trip, be in the hotel and say ‘lads, you’ve just got to sleep’. We’ve tried to let them go out into the local area - not the bars, I hasten to add - but the local areas, to get a feel for everything."

Parkinson also praised former United and England goalkeeper Foster's professionalism and hailed him as a role model for the club's younger players. Elliot Lee, Aaron Hayden and Sam Dalby scored Wrexham's goals on Tuesday, with Marc Juardo replying for United.

What did you make of Wrexham's performance against Manchester United? Let us know in the comments below!

"Ben's obviously a player who played for his country," said Parkinson. "He's top-class, but more importantly, he epitomises what we want. He's got off the pitch things going on with his podcast, but when he trains, he's incredible.

"His professionalism, day-to-day, is incredible. We wouldn't have brought Ben in if he thought it was just going to enhance his media career. He adds to the group, in the way he conducts himself as a professional, so that's very important for us.

"We've got a lot of younger players in the building and so anyone of that ilk who comes in has got to set the right example and be a good role model, and Ben's definitely that."

In other news, Marcus Rashford has revealed who is in charge of the music in United's dressing-room. In an interview with Gary Neville, Rashford said: "Sometimes it's Sanch [Jadon Sancho].

"But then we have a rule where, if someone plays the music and we lose the game, then they're off. You've got to go off. Sometimes we're listening to some Portuguese music and we're winning, and all the English lads are sat there fuming."
