BBC Breakfast descended into chaos on Wednesday as Carol Kirkwood had to contend with a litter of puppies during her weather segment.

The weather presenter was out of the studio during the morning programme as she was broadcasting from the Guide Dog National Centre. She was seen sat on the floor, joined by nine Labrador puppies.

Carol attempted to do her forecast while next to the nine-week old pups but soon struggled as they became out of hand. One of the pups decided to climb up Carol's back and chew on her microphone, whilst another enjoyed playing with her hair.

As she realised what was happening, Carol said: “Oops, get off my mic you little monkey.” She tried to continue her weather predictions, as more pups crawled over her.

Hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent could be heard laughing in the background as they praised Carol for carrying on. Sally said: “Carol, I think you deserve an award for doing the weather forecast whilst someone was eating your microphone and another one was eating your hair.

“That was properly professional, well done, you’re going to have a great morning.” The pups continued to be interested in Carol's hair as Jon joked: “Have you been using that meat-flavoured shampoo again?”

Jon and Sally attempted to carry on with the show, but during the news headlines they became distracted again. Sally explained: “Totally distracted by Carol, I think there’s carnage going on. You can’t see it but there’s carnage going on this morning.”

Carol appeared back on-screen with the puppies to do another weather forecast later on in the programe, although this time she had her hair tied back in a bun.

Viewers were quick to comment as many were impressed with her carrying on the forecast. “Loved Carol's forecast this morning. Best ever! Can't wait for the next one," said one fan.

Another added: "Carol , the Weather is being savaged by baby guide dogs. Fortunately, she's sitting down this time BBC Breakfast.” Someone else praised: "What a pro Carol was!”

A fourth asked: "Does Carol @carolkirkwood have "being attacked by dogs' written into her contract or does @BBCBreakfast like to keep her on her toes every morning?.”

It's not the first time Carol has had a run in with guide dogs live on TV. In 2021, she was dragged to the ground by an excited guide dog as she was broadcasting live from the Chelsea Flower Show in London.

Carol was sweetly distracted by her canine pal as she gave viewers an update on the day’s weather, and revealed that Flash had appeared on BBC Breakfast once before.

“Now, she’s a friend of the programme. She was actually on the programme on the 28th April with her trainer, Mel, and she took a little bit of a nibble out of Mel’s hand when she was only 18 weeks old,” she explained.

“She’s grown a bit since then and she’s very well behaved I must say as well, and just gorgeous,” Carol said, as she stroked the yellow-haired pup.

But viewers were stunned when she was slowly pulled to the ground by the guide dog, who had made a beeline for her trainer off camera.

Flash tugged on the lead as Carol was speaking, and dashed off, leaving the weather presenter face down on the floor with her legs in the air.

“We’ve got a Kirkwood down!” BBC Breakfast co-host Dan Walker exclaimed from back in the studio. “We’ve got a Kirkwood down! Someone save Carol!”
