A dad and his 10-year-old son remain in a life-threatening condition after being struck by a motorbike in southeast London.

A Met Police spokesman has confirmed to the Mirror officers are believed to have not yet spoken to the motorbike rider, who is also in hospital.

The extent of the unnamed 20-year-old motorist’s injuries have not been made clear though they are not considered life threatening.

A child, aged eight, was killed following the collision on Sunday evening.

Named locally as Mustafa Mohammed Ahmed, he is said to have been crossing the road outside Greenwich Islamic Centre with his dad Mohammed Mow Ahmed and older brother Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed at just before 7.30pm.

The latter two remain in a critical condition.

The family, from Somalia but who live in Thamesmead, were on their way to a prayer meeting.

A mosque member, who did not wish to be named, referring to Mr Ahmed, said: “It is heartbreaking. He is going to wake up in hospital and find out his son has died.”

A force spokesman said this morning: “There’s been no significant change in any of the three people in hospital.

“The man and other child remain in a critical condition.

“The motorbike rider's condition isn’t life threatening but they are still in hospital. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Police officers were seen at the mosque, off Plumstead Road, Woolwich, yesterday and are understood to have collected CCTV footage yesterday.

A damaged silver Toyota Prius car, which the motorbike is said to have struck after hitting the pedestrians, remains at the scene today as does remnants of police tape.

A statement released by the mosque said: “GIC management, Imams and the whole community would like to express their heartfelt condolences to the family at this time, we are extremely saddened to witness the passing of an 8-year-old boy in a collision with a motorbike last night (19th February’23) while walking to the Mosque for isha prayers.

“We understand that 3 people including the rider, the father and brother of the victim are in hospital with serious injuries. We pray for their quick recovery.

“While no words can ease the loss of the family, we hope that these gestures of sympathy will be a comfort to them, Anyone who knew the young boy would know how kind hearted, smart and loving he was.

“He would have done anything for anybody, he was truly an amazing person. This is a massive shock to the community.”
