Coronation Street have teased a huge return for a legendary character - 10 years after she died.

Next week on the ITV soap, Bernie and Paul join the Alahans as they hold a memorial dinner for Sunita. Sunita passed away back in April 2013 when she was caught in a fire at the Rovers Return. Her ex-lover Karl Munro - played by John Michie - had started the fire, which she caught him doing, in a bid to frame Jason Grimshaw.

Despite Karl's evil plan to kill her, Sunita actually survived but he killed her off in the hospital by dislodging the breathing tubes. As a result of him messing with her hospital equipment, she died in sad scenes.

Bernie suggests Sunita's ghost has returned

Keen to remember their mother, Aadi and Asha join Dev, Bernie and Paul for their special dinner. They take a photo, and when Asha looks back at it, she sees a bubble of light hovering over her in the photo.

Bernie looks at it and says it's a human spirit but Dev needs more convincing. It is then that Aadi realises that the picture of him and Asha has moved and is now facing the picture they have displayed of their mum.

Bernie is sure that it is the presence of Sunita's spirit but Dev refuses to believe and shuns the idea. Bernie tells Paul about the restless spirit and how it was what cause the photo to move, Dev gets angry and asks her what she's gaining with all her 'nonsense'.

Back in 2021, Shobna Gulati - who played Sunita - previously revealed she'd love to return to the soap one day.

She said: "They should bring me back as Sunita's twin. The mean twin, the mean Sunita. It would be nice to go back because as an actor, it's really hard, isn't it? In terms of any kind of security that you might want to have.

"What I do find sad about not being there is my friends who are still there. The friendship I made with Kate Ford, who plays Tracy Barlow, is still very, very strong. We often reminisce and laugh that when Sunita arrived on the street, she had many affairs with different men. I met Kate in the Rovers on one of her first days and I said, 'Where are you in the building?' And she said, 'Oh, I'm just up in this room at the top.' I said, 'I used to live there when I first arrived. Do you want to move in with me?' And she did."
