Manchester United have been told by former striker Louis Saha to sign Harry Kane - and finally unlock the full potential of Jadon Sancho.

Erik ten Hag's side have long been linked with the Tottenham talisman, though are thought to be now losing the race for his signature to German giants Bayern Munich, with Spurs not keen on selling Kane to a Premier League rival. Spurs are reluctant to see Kane leave at all, but with one year left on his deal, the club's owner, Joe Lewis, wants Kane to either ink a new deal or be sold immediately.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would favour the idea of selling Kane to a foreign club, with PSG also keen on the England captain. United are targeting Rasmus Hojlund instead, the Atalanta striker, but if a deal could be done for Kane, they would re-evaluate their plans.

And Saha has claimed that the arrival of Kane could be huge for Sancho and others at Old Trafford.

He said: "We've seen Pep Guardiola neglect having a proper striker in his team, and now he has Erling Haaland, no one asks questions about Manchester City's attack.

"That's the power of the number nine position, they can bring the other forwards to life and sometimes I think the position is disrespected the way it can be overlooked."

The former French international, speaking to Betway, continued:"A proper striker can hold the ball up for 10 seconds, which allows players to come to support them or run in behind, these are the qualities you can imagine that Harry Kane could provide. Players like [Alejandro] Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho will benefit greatly by playing with Kane."

England ace Sancho has struggled to hit the heights expected him since his £73million switch two years ago from Borussia Dortmund.

He has largely underwhelmed since joining the club, so much so that another United icon, Dwight Yorke, has claimed Sancho is now on "borrowed time" at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Mirror Football, Yorke claimed: "Yeah, it's one of a mystery, really. He had so much potential and hope for the likes of Manchester United. Huge investment, really did an amazing job when he was at Dortmund.

"Somehow the transition from there to Manchester hasn't really worked out in the way that we all thought it might for him. [He has] really struggled, whether it's from a mental point of view, which seems to be well documented. He hasn't really lived up to the price tag.

"So yeah, he's on borrowed time, I suppose, if you have to be fair in many respects. He hasn't really produced the goods that we expect him."

A move to United could prove tempting for Kane given it would boost his chance of silverware while also ensuring he remains on track to break the Premier League goalscoring record.
