Tottenham have opened talks over a £69million move for France international Randal Kolo Muani - as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

Manchester United thave already been forced to turn their attention away from Kane, 29, because of Tottenham's hefty demands and have Kolo Muani on their shortlist of alternatives. The Red Devils are desperate to sign a new striker before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, with Atalanta hotshot Ramus Hojlund also targeted but negotiations for the Dane having hit a stumbling block.

Erik ten Hag's options could be about to get even slimmer, though, with reports from Belgium claiming that Spurs are hoping to pip them to the signing of Kolo Muani, 24. The Eintracht Frankfurt ace has emerged as Tottenham's priority target should Kane leave, with it being added that Kolo Muani is keen on the move to North London and the Premier League.

Talks have been opened after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was told by the club's ownership that he must sell Kane this summer if the England captain refuses to sign a new contract. Kane's current deal expires in June 2024, when he'd be able to leave Spurs on a free transfer.

That has led to Kolo Muani being identified as his possible successor, with a £69million fee mooted. The France international has also notably been looked at by Bayern, who appear to have a free run at Kane amid reports claiming that his wife and representatives recently visited Munich to look at houses and schools.

During an interview earlier this month, Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness revealed that the German giants are confident in their pursuit of the English talisman. "Harry Kane has clearly signalled in all conversations that his decision stands - and if he keeps to his word, then we'll get him, because then Tottenham will have to buckle," Hoeness told Sport1.

Kolo Muani is open to spending a second season with Eintracht if a big-money move doesn't come to fruition after joining from Nantes last summer. He scored 23 goals in 46 appearances for the German side.

Speaking to L'Equipe before returning to pre-season training, the Spurs, United and Bayern target addressed speculation on his future.

"We've talk about it a lot already, but I try to be focused on my club," Kolo Muani explained. "We continue our performances and we will see this summer. Afterwards, I always dreamed of playing in big clubs. I thought I was going to need some time to adapt, maybe a year. But everything exploded. Either way, I'm ready for any challenge.

"I ask the club to get me my statistics on my matches each time. I share this with my physical trainer to know what to improve. I do a lot of goals and assists, but it’s not at the level where I should be. I still miss quite a bit. This is only my third (full) season as a professional."
