Terrifying footage has emerged of the moment a knifeman brandished a huge machete in a busy McDonald's restaurant.

The clip, obtained by the Birmz Is Grime blog, later shows police arriving at the Birmingham city centre branch in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 23), before red-dotting the hooded male with a Taser in front of shocked diners.

In the chilling video one onlooker can be heard yelling "yo yo yo, he's got the shank on" prior to the suspect falling to the ground with the 12-inch blade in front of the counter.

As four cops rush in to arrest the man another distressed witness can be heard in the background screaming "he didn't do anything".

The video's caption - "on the ramp" - refers to the fast food chain's location - yards from the Grand Central Shopping Centre and New Street railway station at the heart of the second city.
