Kate Ferdinand has said she is "feeling so lucky" to have her baby daughter Shae as she marked a year since her tragic miscarriage.

Former The Only Way Is Essex star Kate, 32, was left heartbroken and devastated as she suffered a miscarriage 12 weeks into her pregnancy last year after doctors couldn't find a heartbeat during her 12 week scan.

Rio Ferdinand's wife later went on to welcome the couple's second child together, a little girl called Shae, who Kate gave birth to earlier this month.

Kate and football pundit Rio, 44, also share son Cree together and Kate is a devoted step mum to Rio's three children – Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and daughter Tia, 11 – from his marriage to his late wife Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015.

The grateful mum posted a sweet photo of herself kissing her baby daughter's forehead on Instagram today, to share with fans how much can change in a year and reassure those who may be struggling with a similar scenario.

As Kate shared the photo to her Instagram page, she wrote in the caption: "22.7.22 This day last year we went for our 12 week scan and realised I’d had a miscarriage. The pain was numbing I honestly didn’t know how I’d cope."

Kate then added: "22.7.23 I’m feeding my beautiful 12 day old baby girl Shae

"Although I’m tired & hormonal as I sit here now I couldn’t be more grateful, feeling so lucky, what a special gift new life is, the most precious ever Thank you universe".

She then ended the caption with: "So much can change in a year, for anyone who may be struggling try & hold on to the hope".

The hopeful and positive post was met with praise by many of Kate's 1.4 million followers.

Georgia Kousoulou, who revealed she suffered a miscarriage earlier this year, wrote: " needed this today thank you x".

And Mrs Hinch, Jess Wright, Kate Thornton and Michelle Keegan all commented with red heart emojis to send their love.

Last year, Kate announced the tragic news of her miscarriage on Instagram. She posted a black and white photo of her legs resting on a hospital bed.

Kate captioned the post: "The last time I was in this hospital I was having Cree, but this time it was because our baby had no heartbeat in our 12 week scan and I had to have surgery.

"We were so excited & planning a space for our new baby in our family, we just couldn’t wait to share our news with you all, but unfortunately sometimes life just doesn’t go as we plan."

She continued: "So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken …but couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home."
