Ex- Manchester United star Louis Saha has warned a big-money swoop for Rasmus Hojlund would be a “risk” for the Red Devils and has urged a move for a more experienced striker.

After completing deals for Mason Mount and Andre Onana, the Red Devils remain keen to add a big-name striker to their squad. So far, their attempts to sign a new forward have been met with frustration.

United were forced to end their interest in Tottenham ’s Harry Kane due to Daniel Levy’s demands, whilst Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani also appear to be out of their budget. Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund appears to be the most realistic option now.

Reports have suggested that the Red Devils are edging towards a deal despite late interest from French giants Paris Saint-Germain. Former United striker Saha has given his say on a potential move.

The Frenchman has suggested that he would represent a risk despite being a fan of the forward. He has also hinted that the Red Devils should move for a more experienced striker.

Speaking to Paddy Power, he said: “It's always a risk when a player moves from another country. They might have all the talent, but it can take time to adapt. But, Rasmus Højlund has what it takes.

“If you look at his record, he's not scored as many goals as he would’ve liked, but the style of play at Atalanta shows that he is capable of leading the line. He is very strong and has a great left foot.

“He is very mobile and provides a lot of space for the kind of wingers that Manchester United have. It's a very interesting move.

"A player with more experience in the Premier League would be better and I'd prefer it, but that's the situation. Manchester United need to decide what their real priority is, whether it’s someone that will have an instant impact, or someone for the future.”

Should United get a deal over the line for Hojlund, he would be arriving at Old Trafford fresh off the back of his best season in front of goal. The 20-year-old scored ten goals and notched four assists for Atalanta last term in what was his debut season following a move from Sturm Graz.

He also picked up where he left off as the Italian side kicked-off their pre-season preparations with a 10-1 victory over Rappresentativa Città di Clusone. Hojlund scored his side’s eighth goal of the afternoon.

The Dane has four years remaining on his contract with Atalanta. PSG are also reported to be in talks with the Italian side after making the decision to sell star forward Kylian Mbappe.
