Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has admitted he misses Mason Mount after the latter made the move to Manchester United earlier this month.

Mount, 24, joined the Red Devils for a fee in the region of £60million on July 5 as Erik ten Hag managed to get his first summer signing over the line. The England international has since starred in pre-season and impressed during United's first friendly as they beat Leeds 2-0 in Oslo.

He had to wait another week for his next minutes at the Red Devils as they travelled to Edinburgh for a game against Lyon. Mount played another important role as United beat the Ligue 1 side 1-0 and continued their 100% start to pre-season.

Whilst Mount is having a strong impact at United, it appears he is being missed at Chelsea by ex-Aston Villa midfielder Chukwuemeka. Whilst on their tour of the US, Chukwuemeka was asked about Mount whilst signing autographs. He simply replied: "It is what it is, I miss him."

Mount is part of the Red Devils squad to have travelled to the United States for their pre-season tour. They will face Arsenal on Saturday in their third pre-season friendly, before taking on Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund during their time in USA.

During his time at United, Mount has slotted into a midfield-three and it is a role he is enjoying so far. Speaking after his side's win over Lyon, he said: "I really liked that role [No.8] today, being able to drop in deep and get on the ball and start the play from a bit deeper, but also having the freedom to get forward and get in the box and try to make the runs in behind and help the press.

"I really enjoy that position, being able to do both sides and also being able to start off the press, like when I nearly had that chance. I thought it worked really well. We've had a tough week but great to have 45 minutes in the tank now."

Mount added: "It felt great to be on the pitch. We have had that time in training and we have been working so hard, so it is great to show that in matches now. We have been working on a few different tactics," he said.

"The first week is all about fitness and getting work into the legs, but I have a big understanding now of how the manager wants to work and how the boys play. In the second half, the younger boys were amazing in the second half.

"It is so exciting for the club to see them come on and make that impact. I really liked the role I was in today. Being able to drop in and build up the play from a bit deeper, but with that license to go forwards and make runs into the box and be involved in more attacks."
